How ENROLLus came to be...
Growing up, I always had a passion for Education as a business. I got my Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Nairobi in 2015, and I had decided I was going to start a school.
And I did, four years after graduating. I had a passion for teaching, and I was good at managing the school business.
We set up a beautiful Kindergarten and we were excited about opening the school and receiving as many learners as possible.

The learners came, one by one, just like any other startup school, and the student enrollment slowly increased.
THEN CAME THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC!
I remember this so clearly. It was the first term of the academic year 2020, in the second week of March, when our then-President of Kenya, Uhuru Mwigai Kenyatta, announced that schools had to close down, and children had to stay at home, as a way to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
We were shocked! With teachers and staff,to pay, it was hard.
We had to adjust, and we did. During the lockdown, I began paying a closer look at the school as a business.
Here is what I paid close attention to:
- the number of students who had enrolled
- the locations where they came from
- the methods we were using to acquire students
- the amount of school fees we were charging
- our online presence
- how we communicated with the parents who had enrolled
and so on.
This shed light on so many things, and the need for an increase in student enrollment was at the heart of all of it.
For the school to have the stable ability to pay teachers, retain them, and meet its operational costs, it needed to have a high student enrollment.
The solution to this was MARKETING THE SCHOOL!
I pulled my sleeves up and went into a deep understanding of Education Marketing. I learnt what it took to run a profitable school business. This meant:
- attracting learners who could pay the required school fees
- more visibility of the school to potential parents (both online and offline)
- better use of technology to communicate with enrolled parents
- clear communication on the unique value we offered to parents and students
- a stronger online presence
In the long run, we experienced many challenges and had to close down the school.
By then, I had gained valuable skills in Education marketing, such as:
- SEO Website Copywriting (my favourite)
- WordPress web design and development
- Social media marketing
- Paid Ads
- Content marketing etc…
I combined:
- My background in Education, with over 10 years of experience in the education space
- hands-on experience starting and running a school business
- first-hand experience of what parents look for when choosing a school, and deciding if to enroll
- My expertise in education marketing
